What are the results of these mistakes? Here are some from one study of fifty children with malnutrition: Many, of course, were underweight. They had pale, sallow complexions, and poorly-developed muscles. They lacked vigor. Some showed signs of rickets, a faulty bone development from lack of vitamin D. Their teeth tended to have a great number of cavities.

Many children had serious anemia, and heart murmurs due to anemia. Regular Check-TJps Of course, if these children had been taken to the doctor for regular check-ups, their improper management would have been corrected. Few undernourished children, however, get to a doctor often. The treatment for these children included a well-balanced diet, with fruit Juice, egg, cereal, toast, vegetables, meat, and cheese. In addition, they were given adequate amounts of iron and vitamins.

All the children allowed to follow this diet showed satisfactory improvement. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS W. After having a baby, I have had excessive fatigue, loss of interest, loss of vigor, and general weakness. Can you help me? Answer: This may be due to a poor diet during and after pregnancy. Many women, after having a baby, develop severe physical fatigue because of worry about the baby, increased work and loss of normal rest.

By HERMAN N. JBUNDESEN, M.D. CHILDREN who get plenty of the wrong food are often victims of malnutrition, leading to anemia and other serious diseases. A danger period Is between one and four years of age, especially In tots under two. I have often pointed out that children and adults, too can be Ill-fed and undernourished even though the family Is not In want.

Nowadays, most often the family is financially able to supply the right food. It has been noticed that a large number of these ill-fed children are from rural areas. Feeding Mistakes Here are some of the feeding mistakes that cause malnutrition: Overemphasis on milk. Parents who have learned the Importance of milk sometimes neglect other Important foods. Many children cannot take as much as a quart of milk a day and still eat other foods that are necessary for growth and development.

Overemphasis on breast feeding. Many undernourished children are kept on mother's milk too long, sometimes until they are fifteen months old. Most doctors feel that the average baby should normally be weaned from the breast In the last months of the first year. In addition, many of these children are not taught to feed themselves. Vitamins a Necessity Vitamins.

In many cases it is found that mothers neglect to give the necessary vitamins after the child is a few months old. Vitamins, or foods containing the proper vitamins, are a vital necessity throughout childhood. Many children who are given DEAR MISS DIX: I have run into a very difficult problem with my boy friend. I couldn't stand arguing so I told him I would stop, only to find that It was impossible. I then began smoking behind his back. I knew this was not right so I told him what I had been doine. We have been areuing constantly now and he says he will have to- give me up unless I stop smoking. I feel if he really loved me he wouldn't get so upset over a little thirg.

GRETA ANSWER: This may seem like a trivial matter to you. but it is over just such seemingly small Items that many marriages break up. Since your friend feels so definite on this point, it is up to you to make the concession and break the habit. It can be done. To make a happy marriage is worth the exercise of a little will power, don't you think? Lonely Divorcee DEAR MISS DIX: I am a schoolteacher.

35 years old and divorced. Since my religion precludes remarriage. I'm very lonely on week ends when other people are going places. Church work occupies quite a bit of my time, but there is still much left for loneliness. Wouldn't It be a good idea for women in my circumstances to band together in a group to solve this problem? I heard some time ago of an organization called Divorcees Anonymous, and wonder if you know anything about it.

ANSWER: I have heard' of a group such as you mention, but agree that it would be a fine idea. If a youngster paints a picture his house with jade green arms, legs, ears, somewhat irregular features and a chimney puffing a plume of gray smoke to accord with other gray touches and royal blue, it is just a matter of expressing his original ideas and that, according to Ernest Harper, head of the Art Department of Jones County Junior College in Ellisville and summer art school instructor here, is exactly what he should be encouraged to do.
