FL 3-9482. Unique Group Combines Hobby Fun And Service PRO AND CON There has been considerable discussion as to what to do with a county tax collector, in case the legislature separates the of--; fices of sheriff and tax collector. Many have contended that the tax collector should be maintained in a separate office. Others feel that the offices of tax collector and tax assessor should be made one. In the latter instance, most tax assessors seem to object, and, many people back them, saying that placing the tax collector and tax assessor under one officer would give him powers to decide what to assess and then make collection.

This would be like providing the back for the club to beat. Yesterday, we heard from the tax assessor of one of our larger counties, and, he had a solution with a reason. Said he: "We ought to combine the tax collector and tax assessor. You see, the assessor does the bulk ot his work in the Spring, then his help is largely idle the rest ol the year. The tax collector makes his big collections in the Fall, and then his force is largely underworked the rest of the year.

"Put the two together and one office force and one collec-tor-assesjor could keep busy all year and save the taxpayers money." Maybe the assessor is thinking about the taxpayers rather than himself. Day or night, FL 2-1319. prospective gubernatorial candidates will speak out. This is an unusual election year in that only one candidate has actually come to the fore with an announcement, and, he is a Republican: In the past, candidates have had something to say by Christmas time and even sooner, but here we are near the end of January and all is quiet on the Democratic front. Insofar as can be learned, there are three potentials, but all seem to be sparring for time. THREE PRINCIPALS Lt.

Gov. Paul Johnson has had a sore throat and a bad ankle. He has been unwilling to strain himself with speeches lately, probably figuring it better to save his breath for the big whirl. Besides, he faces federal prosecution on contempt of court charges and may want something decided before he gets in the campaign stage. Rep.

J. P. Coleman, Acker-man, a former governor, has peen polling his friends in an effort to determine, apparently, whether it is practicable to seek the governorship again. You hear pros and cons on this poll and Rep. Coleman's intent.

Certainly, he stands a real potential. DARK-HORSE VOID? Then, there is the Clarksdale ex-district attorney, who is making many speeches. In fact, we hear that he has had several district openings of a campaign. Getting in the race late in 1959, Sullivan ran an amazing campaign and almost got into a second primary that many felt he might have won had he made the second. The Manufacturers' Association panel will be watched with interest, if the potentials appear, and with equal interest, perhaps, if they don't.

Certainly, we'd say that Ru-bel Phillips, the Republican candidate w'll be on hand. Sullivan probably will show up, too. We hear that he may assume the role of the dog that got the bone. And then, there is a wide open field for a dark-horse that seems to be most elusive. and heaters, among other things." "Furniture companies, cleaners, drug stores, restaurants all kinds of firms responded, and the drive grew from just furniture to all kinds of things," Cheney said.

Included in the harvest were furniture, radios, TVs, clothing, hams and turkeys, cigars and cig-arets, gum and candy, and a va Illinois, or at the principal offices of me Chemical Bank New York Trust Company, New York, New York), the principal amount thereof together with a premium eoual to $32.50 on each bond, and accrued interest upon such amount until such date.
